Y7 Recounts

Year Seven students have been revising a variety of non-fiction text types. They have explored the structure and language features of each text type before using it as model for their own writing. Here is an example of a recount by India in Y7 Lions. This was written after the Y7 Team Buliding day at Treasure Island, Lantau.

Treasure Island

On Tuesday 1st of September, Kellett Year seven students set out to Treasure Island, (Pui O beach) for team building day. We all knew from word of mouth, and gut feeling that this was going to be an amazing day…

Sprinting off the ferry, we found the bus waiting for us, accompanied by a few of the leaders from Treasure Island. Impatiently, I got on the bus and waited for the journey to end. Eventually, we got there. And after a few minute walk, Treasure Island was finally there in front of my eyes.

The first activity of the day was kayaking. Soon enough, we were getting into our vivid coloured kayaks. The golden sand was soft and warm against my feet. High above, the scorching sun shone brightly on to my face. With a bit of help, and all our strength, we heaved the kayak down the silky smooth sand. After we managed that, I crashed down onto the syrupy sand. Leisurely, I waded into the wonderfully cool water. After a few moments had past, I hopped into the kayak that I was to share with my two, slightly mad team mates.

As we set off, we received in instructions from our team leaders to meet next to the shark nets. Even though we weren’t going that fast, I could still feel the bitter, saltwater spray splatter across my face. BANG! Suddenly a huge jolt racked the boat. Swiveling my head round, I caught a quick glimpse of Harry and Hunter capsizing before they disappeared into the murky green waters below…

After a lot of screaming and capsizing, we started to make our way up the river. It took a lot of hard work to maneuver our three man kayak between rocks and against the current. The leaders decided that we should turn back and start making our way back for lunch. Paddling as fast as we could make the kayak travel, we sped back towards the beach where we had set off from. Exhausted, we made it back to the beach, just as the clouds started crawling across the sky in our direction. My limbs felt as if they were about to drop off. Despite the fact that it was great fun, I didn’t think that I could do it again, right then and there. Staggering, I made my way towards Ooh la la for lunch. I was incredibly hungry. Oh how I was looking forward to eating after all that exercise…

I had a fabulous time at Treasure Island; one I will never forget. It was an amazing experience for both the students and teachers. If someone were to ask me, “Would you like accompany the Year 7’s to Treasure Island?” I would happily volunteer. The leaders were so kind, and so helpful. Although the kayaking was the most memorable part for me, all of it was immense fun. How lucky I was to visit Treasure Island. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something to do on a beautiful day, definitely, definitely go to Treasure Island. How I wish I could go again.

Geography Term One Miss Everett

Year Eight are preparing for their northern Thailand adventure next month, during which they will complete their river study and Geography Common Entrance fieldwork. But can they find their way around a river?

Here are some of their river models showing that they can (phew!). They have been made out of all sorts of materials- flour paste, tissues, cardboard... their inventiveness is quite impressive. And what a pleasure they are to have in the classroom... except one that has an unusual aroma and is gracing the corridor with its presence instead! Here are a selection of 8 Falcons' models for you to enjoy.

Science - Term 1

Year 7

The year 7 classes have been learning all about cells and discovering how to view them under a microscope. Below you can see one of the slides made by the students - showing onion cells.

Year 8

There has already been alot of noise from the year 8 students as they investigated sound. A few of the students demonstrated scientifically the range of their singing voices.

Now, we have found the light and students are investigating how light travels and what influences what we see.
